JOB TITLE: Project Assistant (Child Protection in Emergency)
TEAM/PROGRAMME: Programme Implementation
LOCATION: Namkham, Northern Shan State
Number of Position: 1
Grade: E-1
Type of Contract: Fixed Term

CHILD SAFEGUARDING:
Level 3 – the role holder will have contact with children and/or young people either frequently (e.g. once a week or more) or intensively (e.g. four days in one month or more or overnight) because they work in country programs; or are visiting country programs; ore because they are responsible for implementing the police checking/vetting process staff.

ROLE PURPOSE: Work with the Child Protection Team in Namkham to facilitate support to children identified by themselves, community members or agencies in accessing services and receiving proper care and follow-up.
SCOPE OF ROLE:
Reports to: Project Officer

Direct Reports: Community Volunteer

Financial Approval: No financial approval

External Representation: No regular contact

Travel: Frequent (over 6 days per month)

Key accountabilities
• Work closely with community members in addressing child protection cases through referral mechanisms and services provided while keeping into account community based mechanisms.
• Train, coach and support community members in identification and monitoring activities for case management work.
• Conduct regularly awareness raising,
• Train, coach and support community members on existence of referral pathways and related service providers.
• Facilitate CP related topics with community
• Monthly meetings with Community volunteer to follow CP issues in camps.
• Facilitate life skill activities with adolescent children
• Receive and verify information fed from the communities.
• Provide and distribute assistant materials in terms of Child Protection Program.
• Assign, monitor the progress of the work with Community volunteer.
• Provide regular monthly reports and activities to Project Officer
• In collaboration with Community Volunteer assess community spaces that can be used for Child Protection activities.
• Other tasks assigned by Project Officers, Coordinator

Person specifications
• University degree or equivalent experiences
• Demonstrated skills and experience in implementing Child Protection in Emergency
• At least 1 year in implementing and working with children
• Commitment to and understanding of Save the Children’s aims, values and principles.
• Ability to undertake case analysis, to document and submit case reports capturing key issues needed to inform programming for urgent response
• Ability and willingness to travel domestically very frequently including to remote areas.
• High motivation to work with difficult circumstances.
• A commitment to children’s rights, children’s participation and non-discrimination.
• Experiences in establishing networking and coordinating and strengthening referral mechanism.
• Understanding of case management and referral pathways at a community, inter-agency and institutional level.
• Previous experience working for an NGO or other non-profit organization.
• Strong analytical skills and organization skills, ability to work independently and productively in a fast-paced environment and the ability to manage a multi-facetted workload.
• Solid communication skills and attention to detail.
• Flexible work attitude: the ability to work productively in a team environment & independently.
